Zooey Deschanel – Favorite Makeup Looks
I do this sort of post every once in a while where I pick a certain celeb and feature what for me are their most memorable makeup looks. My celebrity for today is Zooey Deschanel. She’s all over the place right now, huh? I’ve always thought she was super pretty, and was delighted when I first started watching New Girl, but now, I dunno, I’m kinda getting annoyed and tired of the uber quirkynesss, and after watching a spoof of her Siri commercial, apparently, I’m not alone in that.
Well, whether she’s adorable or annoying, one thing you gotta admit is that her makeup almost always looks impeccable. She really makes it work for her. And after seeing a makeup-less photo of her in People Magazine, I was even more impressed. Below are some of my favorite looks of Zooey’s.
As Jess Day in New Girl
Her makeup in New Girl, as Jess, I think is pretty much her trademark look. Her complexion is always alabaster—pale, smooth, flawless. And then there are the thick false eyelashes and black eyeliner, sometimes winged, that give all the more emphasis to those striking eyes, and lend a wide-eyed look. I barely notice her eyeshadow because it’s usually covered by bangs, but I’ve found out that her makeup artist, Jorjee Douglass, uses Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Busy Signal, which is a dark bronze. The blush is often a peachy pink shade (Nars Orgasm according to her makeup artist), and lastly, on the lips, a reddish shade.
I think the eye makeup compliment her eyes very well and it’s the combination of the hair (products used and how-to on her website) and eyes that give her character a vintagey look.
Golden Globes 2012
I liked how her makeup in the 2012 Golden Globes was a vampier version of her usual look. MUA Jorjee Douglass said that the inspiration for this look was Emma Peel from the Avengers (not from the 2012 movie. She’s a cool 60′s spy). The focus here is definitely on the eyes. I do wish her bangs didn’t always cover her eyeshadow, but anyway, I understand that the length and styling of the bangs might be to bring all the attention to the lashes, liner, and Zooey’s stunning natural eye color. It’s vampy but elegant. As usual her skin is flawless, and since the eyes are the highlighted feature here, it’s just right that the rest of the makeup was kept minimal. Also…I love the tuxedo manicure she had on.
Marie Claire Magazine May 2012
I think it’s cool how the makeup here is more modern and moody than what Zooey usually wears, and it’s definitely editorial makeup, but somehow it doesn’t deviate very far from her trademark style. Sure, it’s more of edgy, sexy makeup, but there’s the familiar, kinda poofy on top hair and bangs, and of course the focus in on Zooey’s best feature—her eyes.
And there you go, those are my favorite makeup looks from Zooey Deschanel. Do you like her makeup?
