Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black Review

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black Review

I don’t regularly use eye liners in pencil form because everything that I’ve tried before doesn’t really last for more than a few hours. They either disappear or migrate down the under eyes that I always end up looking hideous. I learned my lesson so I don’t normally use pencil eye liners, although I’ve always secretly dreamt of having more defined eyes and generally, that’s what eye liners are for.

I always notice this London-based brand Rimmel every time I passed by the cosmetics section in grocery stores in the US. I usually don’t bother checking out their products but just recently, I took time to check them out and got interested in their pencil eye liners because there were a lot of colors to choose from. Their eye liners come in really cheap so I thought it won’t make a huge dent in my wallet.

Soft, smudgeable colour kajal liner pencil
Soft, smudgeable line. Fade resistant colour. This pencil gives dense colour application, which can be blended into the lid for a softly smudged look. A very easy to apply formulation.

What I like about Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black:

  • Glides on smoothly on my lids
  • True to its color “jet black”, not gray or faded black or some black with gray or blue tones.
  • Very pigmented
  • It’s very black and smudgeable so it’s effective for creating a smoky look.
  • Perfect for creating dramatic or intense looks
  • You don’t need to tug your eyelids to apply this because of the good color payoff.
  • Ridiculously cheap.

What I don’t like about Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black:

  • Disappears in my waterline after a few hours
  • Not sweat-proof nor waterproof
  • Smears easily, usually in an hour or two. I always end up looking like someone with a black eye.
  • Easily breaks after sharpening
  • Not locally available in the Philippines

Before smudging

After smudging. I let it dry for a few minutes before smudging.

I expected this eye liner to actually work on my lids since it was very cold during that time. I thought the eye liner would stay put and won’t disappear or melt down. It never failed to surprise me, not in a good way though. After a few hours, the eye liner is totally gone on my lids and I found black smears underneath my eyes.

I can’t use this for rimming my eyes because it smudges very badly. My eye lids are not even oily but this eye liner doesn’t stay on for more than a few hours. It looks alright upon application and it doesn’t even budge or smudge heavily, but after an hour it leaves tiny black flakes and black smears under my eyes and it’s not a pretty sight. As they say, this black eye pencil is designed to be smudged to create a certain look, but I wished the color doesn’t melt down towards the under eyes. I won’t really recommend this eye liner. It does its job in giving eyes some definition, but the smearing and melting down part just won’t do.
