NYX Round Lipstick in Spellbound Review

Have you ever experienced the power of a good lipstick? I’m sure a lot of you have their best “in your face” lipstick, right? A favorite lipstick that when worn, makes you feel empowered, happy even. Well, me for instance, I have been at my lowest, feeling frumpy and ugly when my fairy godmothers of all things kikay (mothergoose and sister) sent over a magical lipstick, aptly named Spellbound. Tadah!

It says Lip smacking fun colors! I couldn’t agree more.

After undergoing a failed radiation therapy and surgery for a mass removal, I was really at my “poor me, me against the world” attitude, and feeling really, really, fugly. One swipe of this magical color and I was swept to happy land, just kidding. I love, love, love this color. I guess this is a perfect “perk me up” hot pink for me.

Because I am loving the color, I asked my sister to send over another one, just so I would have a replacement in case I finish the tube.

For years, I have been wearing mostly “my lips but better shades” (or just my favorite Rosebud salve) as I find some colors like reds and bright pinks too bold for me and wouldn’t suit my personality, but when I tried it on, it was love at first swipe. This color is just gorgeous and fun! Hot pink. At first glance it looks scary, but when worn it can instantly brighten the face. Don’t get intimidated, go ahead and try it. I love that it makes me look alive.

The lipstick itself comes in a black plastic packaging. My sister said she got it on sale at $2-3 a piece, I can’t remember, sorry. Also, on the side of the tube it says cruelty free, so that’s nice to know. The smell is reminiscent of stationeries we used to swap when we were kids. To some it might be bothersome, but I like it. It kinda grows on you and not too overpowering. The consistency is rich and pigmented. One has to be careful though as over application would cause it to slide on to the teeth. Even if the consistency is rich, I still put on a bit of a lip salve to moisturize the lips even better, then I just use one light swipe. Though it is pigmented, it can only last up to 2 hours at the most on me as I tend to lick my lips a lot. It can come off when you drink, but it does leave a tint to the lips as it fades. Just a tip though, for a more subdued hue, I try to tissue off and blot the excess to avoid looking too garish.

What I love about NYX Round Lipstick in Spellbound?

• I love how they named it Spellbound.
• Affordable.
• Lovely, fun, vibrant pink.
• Instantly brightens the face.
• Pigmented.
• Does not dry up my lips.
• You can now purchase online through resellers or at some stalls in the mall, but better be careful of the ones selling fakes.

The downside of NYX Round Lipstick in Spellbound:

• Color can only last up to 2 hours on me so there is a need for touch ups.
• Since the consistency is rich, I’m scared of it melting.
• For some, they might find the scent a little bit cloying.

Other than those mentioned in the downside, what is there not to love? Now, would I repurchase? Definitely, even if I already got a spare. I also would want to try other lip colors as there are a lot of shades available, and other products too from NYX. It is a great brand at an affordable price. So whenever I am feeling down, I just put on my war paint Spellbound and I am good to go.
