MUA Lipstick Shade #11 Swatch and Review
I like trying out local drugstore brands, so hey, why shouldn’t I try out foreign drugstore brands too? MUA or Make Up Academy is an affordable line of cosmetics sold at Superdrug branches in the UK. MUA has an array of lipsticks to choose from, and they also have blushes, plus a range of eye makeup which I’d love to get my hands on (already have one of their Heaven and Earth eyeshadow palette, which is great, reviewed here). The MUA Lipstick Shade #11 looked like a nice my-lips-but-better shade and it was pretty affordable!
Clicked right as my daughter grabbed the lipstick! That’s her hand there.
I bought the MUA Lipstick from Updated Trends, which sells UK brands of cosmetics plus other stuff.
The packaging of this is very simple, just a basic black tube with a clear part on the bottom to show the shade of the lipstick. There’s a sticker on the cap indicating the shade number and that the product contents are 3.8 g.
But it’s what’s inside that matters! #11 is a brownish apricot shade with a slightly glossy finish. It looks drab and a little dark on the tube, but it looks neutral on the lips—neither too pink nor too brown, and it doesn’t look dark on but doesn’t wash me out either. It’s indeed a my-lips-but-better color for me. It’s very close to the actual color of my lips, so with this on, the color of my lips seem enhanced but you could hardly tell I have anything on, as it looks so natural. I like the slight shine it has as well, I’ve always been partial to lipsticks with glossy or shiny finishes because they look better on my dry lips.
It’s not particularly long-lasting though. It tends to fade on me after just two hours and it’s completely gone after a snack. But since I like the shade a lot, I don’t mind reapplying. It doesn’t dry out my lips which I’m really glad about. It has no taste but has an artificial, sweetish scent, but it fades after about ten minutes.

MUA Lipstick Shade #11 – What I Like:
- This shade looks really natural on my lips. Very nice my-lips-but-better color.
- Has a smooth texture that glides on easily, and which doesn’t clump or settle into the lines of my lips.
- The slightly shiny finish look good on my often-dry lips.
- It’s pigmented. I only need one or two swipes for the color to show.
- Doesn’t have any taste.
- I don’t find it drying at all.
- It’s not expensive. It costs PhP 150 at Updated Trends and £1 in the UK.
MUA Lipstick Shade #11 – What I don’t Like:
- It fades easily.
- Has a noticeable artificial scent. Would choose this one over the scent of NYX Round Lipsticks though.
- Has to be ordered online.
