Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick Review

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick Review

Hey everyone, Maybelline Philippines recently released a new product—the Clear Smooth BB Stick. It seemed to be marketed pretty much as a BB Cream but in a stick version. I was intrigued and visited different drugstores to find one and finally chanced upon it at a Watsons in Mall of Asia. Now here’s my review!

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick ReviewProduct claim:

Clear Smooth BB Stick is a multi-benefit product that combines the benefits of skin care, makeup, and sun block in a stick. It contains salicylic acid that helps clear away pores and imperfections, and mineral clay that helps control shine all day.

Dermatologically recommended.

Recommended for oily or combination skin.

Suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin.

This is available in two shades: Fresh, the lighter shade which is for light skin tones, and Radiance, the one I picked, which I think is be more suitable for medium complexions. The Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick costs PhP 249 at drugstores and department stores.

It’s about 3 inches long and contains 10g of product. The stick doesn’t twist down into the tube completely, so there’s always about 1/4 of an inch of product out, which I’ve already nicked with the cap while putting it back on.

I like that this is unscented, and what I like even more is how light it feels on the skin. The BB Stick has a dry, matte, lightweight texture. It does not feel, in the least, oily or greasy. To apply it, I lightly smudge the stick on multiple areas, then blend gently with my fingers. I do my face section by section. It doesn’t end up looking streaky or cakey.

Currently, my skin is combination. It’s oily on the t-zone, and dry on the cheeks and around the lips. If your face is dry on some areas, like mine is, I recommend exfoliating and using a moisturizing primer or mist beforehand because this emphasizes dry, flakey spots.

The coverage it provides is light, I’d say medium, at most. If you want a base that gives sheer, natural-looking coverage, you might like this, but if you prefer something very pigmented that gives heavy coverage, then you might not. This helps even out my skin tone but blurs blemishes a little but doesn’t cover them up. I still need to apply concealer on my dark circles, pimples, pimple scars when I use this.

The Clear Smooth BB Stick tends to make my face oily by mid-afternoon, and by then I notice that this has started to fade too. It doesn’t melt off in obvious streaks or clumps though, I just find that coverage isn’t as fresh or intact. I find the lasting power alright, though it could be better. What I do is blot my face gently with blotting paper, then dust on a light layer of powder, and I find that this fixes my makeup enough.

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick – Pros:

  • The lightweight feel of it, definitely. Great for our tropical climate.
  • The finish looks natural. It helps even out my skin tone but when I wear it, it doesn’t look too obvious that I have foundation on.
  • Radiance shade matches my skin tone closely.
  • No white cast in photos, even with flash.
  • The portable size.
  • It has SPF 21.
  • It’s unscented.
  • It doesn’t irritate my skin or break me out.
  • It’s affordable.
  • It’s available at a lot of places.

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick – Cons:

  • The stick doesn’t twist all the way down into the tube.
  • Lasting power is average. The two BB Creams from Missha that I’ve tried last much longer.
  • Coverage is light to medium so this may not satisfy those who want heavy or complete coverage.
  • Causes my skin to oil up a little.
  • Only comes in two shades.

Overall:

This gets my thumbs up despite the cons. With its affordable price, light feel, and natural finish, it’s definitely worth the try.
