Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set Review

Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set Review

It has been said that a basic skin care regimen starts with 3 easy steps: cleanse, tone and moisturize. And once in a while, exfoliate. These are a few simple steps to follow to take care of your skin. It’s so easy and basic that I imagine a lot of women wouldn’t have a hard time keeping to that simple regimen.

However, I admit that I am sometimes guilty of missing a step or two, especially at night time. With work and motherhood, I find myself just yearning for the bed at the end of the day and a three-step process is just too much work. And exfoliation? Tsk, it takes weeks – months, even – before I remember to exfoliate. That being said, I was very, very glad when I discovered the Velocity skin care line of Mary Kay.

Mary+Kay+Velocity+Skin+Care+Set+Review Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set ReviewThe Velocity skin care set is composed of a facial cleanser and a lightweight moisturizer, both of which are sold individually, too. In my case, I got the set because I wanted to explore the product line in its full potential. And because it’s a cleanser/toner/exfoliant in one, perfect for a lazy girl like me. My skin is a combination of normal (T-zone) and dry (cheeks). According to the Mary Kay beauty consultant (a much fancier term for ‘sales agent’), Velocity is actually their line for adolescents or teenagers as it is very mild, and for students who are on a budget.

Mary+Kay+Velocity+Skin+Care+Set+Review1 Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set ReviewI find that the Mary Kay Velocity products are very ‘thrifty’ to use. The cleanser is already mixed-in with toner and with really minute beads to exfoliate. A pea-size amount of the cleanser on moistened skin is enough for the whole face, and can even extend up to the neck. It is a little runny, and it doesn’t lather very much. Just to see how far it goes as a cleanser, I did a little test: without taking off my makeup, I used the cleanser on my face. Then I took a cotton pad moistened with makeup remover and swiped it on my cheeks. The cotton pad went in clear, which I took as proof that my foundation was washed off even without prior use of a makeup remover before cleansing. Now that’s another less step for me!

Mary+Kay+Velocity+Skin+Care+Set+Review2 Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set ReviewThe lightweight moisturizer is indeed, “lightweight”. It’s not very creamy, but not runny either. It was an in-between of sort. I use little more than a pea-size amount to cover my face and neck. It is easily absorbed by the skin, making it supple in less than a minute. The moisturizing power is good, too. The product claims to have an oil-absorbing ingredient, nevertheless the dry parts of my skin remained supple and well-moisturized.

After the first couple of days, my skin was noticeably brighter. About a week later, a few people actually stopped and asked if there was something new about me, because they said I was “glowing”. I figured this is due to the exfoliating particles in the cleanser, which with regular use, sloughs off the dead layers of skin and keep the new skin ‘glowing’. Several more days later, I noticed that my pores are smaller and that my skin hasn’t felt dry in a long time.

I read somewhere that a product has to be used consistently for 4 weeks before one can actually claim its effects. And I am very happy to share with you that I have been using this product line for almost a year.

Statistics:

• Cleanser – 147 mL, individual price = 760 PHP
• Moisturizer – 118 mL, individual price = 685 PHP

Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set - The good:

• Cleanser, toner and an exfoliant in one. Also doubles as a makeup remover. Definitely a time-saver!
• A small amount goes a long way. One set lasts for 10 months with regular use. However the moisturizer may run out a couple of weeks earlier.
• Mild, yet effective.
• The exfoliating particles help keep a healthy ‘glow’.
• Lightweight moisturizer is perfect for our humid climate, yet moisturizing enough to last the whole day.

Mary Kay Velocity Skin Care Set - The bad:

• Expensive at 1,400++ Php per set. However, judging from the length of time it took for me to finish one set, it is actually a good value for the money.
• Mary Kay is sold via direct selling, so unless you know a ‘beauty consultant’, it can be hard to find.

Yes, sulit na din talaga! A pea-size amount is all you need. :)
