Lush Karma Soap Review
Here’s what’ll probably be my last Lush Soap review for some time, since I’ve stocked up pretty well on them. As I’d mentioned in my post on the Honey I Washed the Kids Soap, I got that and Karma together in the Top of the Blocks pack, which contains two cake slice-shaped slices of soap weighing 100 gram each. There were various scent combos at the store, but ‘course I had to pick HIWTK and Karma because they’re the most popular among the Lush Soaps.
What the company says about the product:
The scent of the 60s
Top up your Karma quotient with a quick wash during the day. Buy a big chunk, slice some off for the basin and the kitchen sink, then keep the rest for the shower. There’s enough Karma fragrance in each bar to perfume your whole body each time you wash. It has our signature fragrance and transports you back to the days of free love and flower power.
Lovely lavendin.
Lavendin oil is used in our Karma range, from soap to fragrance and haircare. It helps to soothe the skin and promote a calmer mood.
A layered fragrance.
Spicy patchouli is complemented with refreshing lemongrass, orange oil and pine to create a clean and lovely smell that lasts on the skin for ages after you’ve washed. If you’ve been mindful and brimming with loving kindness, this is the soap to reward you. One whiff and you’ll be hooked – for this life and the next.
Oh, this smelled so much like Sprite to me when I first smelled the bar, but with an undercurrent of something I didn’t particularly like, but which I ignored. Later on when I used the it, as I should’ve figured it out earlier, I realized what it was—patchouli. Here’s the thing about me, I do not like patchouli in my perfumes and body products.
And gosh, this is very strongly-scented, for soap. I think it’s the most strongly-scented among all the Lush soaps I’ve tried thus far. In the bar, I don’t have much of a problem with it. It smells zingy, cool and fresh. It’s like lime and sprite—a rather fresh combination. But once lathered and transferred to my skin, the patchouli undertone becomes much more apparent. And I do not like smelling even remotely of patchouli. It lingers and it bothers me. So Karma simply isn’t my cup of tea.
Karma doesn’t lather richly, which I already expected and don’t really mind. I don’t find it to be moisturizing, nor drying. It’s priced PhP 375 per 100 grams according to the Lush Philippines website…mahal ah. Maybe it’s a typo and it’s really PhP 275? I dunno.
Back of the Top of the Blocks pack
Lush Karma – What I Like:
- It’s not drying or irritating to my skin.
- It’s not hard to find.
- The scent lingers for some time after a shower (but I don’t like the scent).
Lush Karma – What I don’t Like:
- I personally dislike the scent of it, it can be too much at times.
- It’s expensive.
- The smell of it totally overwhelmed the Honey I Washed the Kids Soap in the pack it came in.
Overall:
This is just not for me. But everyone has a different scent preference. So while I might dislike it so, you might not. Make sure to smell it thoroughly at the shop—maybe even rub the tester on your skin a litte—and give yourself a bit of time to decide whether you like it or not, since this is rather expensive for soap. I personally wouldn’t buy it again though.
