Laura Mercier Secret Concealer Review

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer Review

When I bought this, it was my first trip to the Laura Mercier counter. I had heard so much about their foundations, concealers and tinted moisturizer. Initially I wanted to buy the tinted moisturizer, but I decided I want to address something first with regards to my dark undereyes, so I asked to try their concealers.

The sales attendant offered me a choice of two concealers: the Secret Concealer and the Secret Camouflage. She asked me what I needed to conceal and I said it’s for my undereyes, so she suggested the Secret Concealer since it’s designed for undereyes. She already set the Secret Camouflage aside so I didn’t get the chance to try it. It was meant for blemishes according to her.

I also got to test the darker shade, but it just highlighted the dark shadows of my undereyes so I preferred to use Shade 2.

Under the deceiving lights at Rustan’s, she tested it on me, finishing it with powder and my undereyes looked brighter. Although not completely covered, I thought it was enough during that time because knowing how dark my undereyes were, no concealer was enough. I didn’t bother checking on how it looked outside the mall and went on to purchase it.

What I like about Laura Mercier Secret Concealer:

  • Brightens my undereye area
  • Smooth to apply and blendable
  • Doesn’t irritate my eyes

What I don’t like about Laura Mercier Secret Concealer:

  • Sheer in coverage, not enough to conceal my dark undereyes
  • It’s too creamy that it creases and settles in fine lines
  • Not buildable as it cakes up upon layering
  • Makes my undereyes oily even if I set it with powder
  • Fades easily after a couple of hours
  • Expensive at 995 Php at Rustan’s Department store.

Upon arriving home, I noticed that my undereyes looked so haggard. The concealer had already faded to almost nothing.

I have dry undereyes that needed constant moisturizing before putting on concealer. Being all smooth and creamy, I thought this concealer’s texture would suit me well.

I have tried a couple of methods already to make this concealer work. I tried applying it with my finger, brushes, sponge, but the coverage was still not enough and it settles into my fine lines. I tried not putting on any eye cream or moisturizer under my eyes before applying this super creamy concealer. But because this concealer is too emollient, it creases and settles in my fine lines. It doesn’t make any difference when I apply it after my eye cream or moisturizer has absorbed.

I also tried to cover some blemishes with this but it just sat there and did nothing. It was like it disappeared after I slightly blended it.

Overall:

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage only reduces my dark undereyes and brightens them up a bit upon application, but it’s not enough to cover them completely. When wearing this concealer, my dark undereyes are still showing. After a few hours, it completely fades.

Would I repurchase? No. The coverage is completely sheer and it doesn’t do much for my undereyes. I only use this when I don’t bother much on putting on makeup, and up to now I’m still trying to make it work for me until I finish this pot.

maybe you should try the bobbi brown corrector. ultra favorite among makeup artists. gossmakeupartist on youtube swears by the product! a concealer for the undereye is not a necessity when you have a great corrector! :)

I was gonna suggest the same thing as Maria. :) Have you already tried the Bobbi Brown Correctors? Can’t live without it. Hehe. But with regards to staying power, I think it depends on the skin type so definitely test it first.

I have the BB corrector and although the coverage is superb, it creases badly on me and settles on fine lines in whichever way I apply it, that’s why I only use concealers :(
