Katy Perry: Favorite Hair Colors

I’ve written about some of my favorite makeup looks from Adele, Taylor Swift, and Zooey Deschanel, but when it comes to Katy Perry, instead of makeup, I think I’ll talk about her often-changing hair color instead. I’d love to be much more adventurous with my hair color (I’m talking pink, purple!)…but I think I’m a little old for it, not to mention too shy. So I just live vicariously through Katy and other gals. :-) Here are my faves among Katy Perry’s hair color history.

1. Current purple

I’m especially loving the way she’s styling her current dark purple hair. The color is a rich, dark purple that at times seems to look ombre, from lighter on top to darker on the bottom, perhaps with the use of extensions. It suits her fair, porcelain skin pretty well, and often seen in loose waves or curls. Although the shade is unusual, the overall result looks rather feminine and romantic. Love! Also like how she’s been pairing it lately with more sophisticated outfits which still have a fun, Katy Perry element to them.

2. Good old black

My all-time fave is the dark purple she’s sporting now, but I gotta say she also rocks her signature raven hair. Did you know that Katy Perry’s natural hair color is not black but a brownish, reddish blonde? I must say, she picked black over it for a reason. She looks more striking as a brunette and it’s a great hair color for her pin-up style makeup and outfits. It nicely offsets her fair, flawless skin too.

3. Blue just because

Katy Perry went with blue hair for a time and it’s one of my favorites…just because. Maybe because it reminds me of the people from the Capitol in The Hunger Games, or perhaps because the particular photo above makes me think of one of my favorite pop artists, Lady Gaga. I think it looked cool when she styled it with short, pin-up style bangs, as she wore in her California Gurls video. I also liked it when she wore it in a sleek bob which looked chic and of course in the somewhat out of character, eccentric high-bun.

4. Blonde with pink highlights

Automatically what comes to mind when I think of Katy Perry’s hair color is black hair for some time and which she looks really good in. Have you seen her blonde though? In mid-2011 she went honey blonde, and I found it to be bland on her and less flattering than the black tresses. Then she went for full-on pink, but around December of that year, she combined both. On a then-new chin-length bob, the blonde was lighter, and on only the very top layer of her hair was a tinge of pink. It made for some pretty, cotton candy pink highlights and I found it fun and refreshing.

And there you go! I thought of writing this post because I’m becoming more fond of Katy Perry, her songs often heard at home these days, since Last Friday Night and Teenage Dream (and Call Me Maybe) are my little girl’s favorite songs to sing and dance to!
