A new improved blend of high definition powder comes off pure white but melts on any skin tone. Use as primer before makeup or for touchups to absorb excess oil. It leaves your skin extremely soft like you’ve never felt before.
I think what I have here is the old formulation. It is the White Chocolate variant though I think they only have one shade for the HD primer.
It says that it BLENDS WITH ALL SKIN TYPES, be it normal, dry or oily. I have an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. So, this one is perfect since it will blend on both parts of my face.
When I first got this, I was amazed by how fine the powder is. One funny thing that happened to me was the first time I applied it, in front of the electric fan; I almost inhaled all the particles. I couldn’t stop sneezing and sneezing. I thought I’d have another asthma attack. Luckily, I didn’t…
Well the INGREDIENT that I inhaled that day is SILICA. Ellana Sheer Velvet HD Mineral Powder is made from a single ingredient. COOL!
What is SILICA?
It is a mineral that is soft to touch like a confectioner’s sugar, white in appearance and almost invisible when applied on skin. That’s why it has only one shade (silly me!)! So, it will blend on any shade of skin. Be it light, medium or dark.
Here are some of its major characteristics:
- Has excellent oil absorption properties
- Has the ability to scatter light
- Allows makeup to stay in place on the skin luxuriously
- Has anti-caking properties
Therefore, Ellana Sheer Velvet HD Mineral Powder is a wonder powder! This is why it is used as a primer, finishing powder or blotting powder. I will then review this in 3 ways…
AS A PRIMER
Since it has the ability to scatter light, it works as a filler and base to lighten or blur fine lines. It also allows my makeup to stay in place on my skin but I didn’t notice that it makes my makeup last a little longer than usual.
AS A FINISHING POWER
For me Ellana HD Mineral powder works best as a finishing powder since it seals the makeup underneath. I love that it doesn’t add color to my foundation or blush when applied.
Before I learned about this product, I used the Espresso Con Panna finishing powder also from Ellana, but I hated that it added color to my blush since I usually use the finishing powder all over my face
AS A BLOTTING POWDER
I also love applying it as a blotting powder since it doesn’t make my foundation cake. I never worried it will look like I have piles of makeup on. It also makes my makeup look fresh. Though it won’t look cakey if applied over my foundation I always make sure that I blot the oil with a blotting paper before applying this powder.
What I Like About the Ellana Sheer Velvet High Definition Mineral Powder Primer
- Gives a shine-free and fresh look
- Melts into my skin
- Does not cake when re-touching makeup
- Helps in blurring fine lines and pores
- Locally available
- PINOY product
What I Don’t Like About the Ellana Sheer Velvet High Definition Mineral Powder Primer
- Product is available online – with a few stalls in the Metro
- Loose powder form=messy application. :( If this is available in compact form I’ll def hoard, if that’s even possible with mineral makeup
This is currently my HG finishing and blotting powder. They have a new improved blend but still made from silica. So, I don’t know how could that happen…I might ask them what the difference is. :D All in all I’ll definitely repurchase this one. :)
