Corn Huskers Lotion Review
Now this is interesting. From the way the bottle looks to the name of the product, Corn Huskers Lotion seems like something that could be found in the kitchen rather than the bedroom or bathroom. This hand and body lotion was discovered by my mom while she was doing some grocery shopping. She showed it to me when she got home and I was intrigued, wondering if it had something to do with corn, which happens to be one of my favorite foods (lotion to corn connection, yes).
Printed on the packaging:
Corn Huskers Lotion provides fast absorbing action. Moisturizes, softens, and soothes the discomfort of rough, dry skin.
First thing I checked was the ingredients list, mainly because I was curious. The Corn Huskers Lotion seems like a ‘natural’ type of product, but a quick check on the ingredients will reveal that it contains parabens. Personally I don’t have any problems with that, what I tend to avoid using are lotions which have mineral oil in them, since mineral oil makes my skin dryer.
The Corn Huskers Lotion does not smell like corn. It has a mild, slightly powdery smell, soft to the nose and not overwhelming at all.
The consistency of it is gel-like. If you’ve tried aloe vera gel (I’ve used Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera Soothing Gel, review of it here), well, this has a similar texture to that, but slightly thicker and a little less watery. Also, instead of being aloe vera-based, this one is glycerin-based. The Corn Huskers Lotion can feel pretty wet when when initially applied, but in just 20-30 seconds most of it has dried off from my skin.
After applying this my skin feels very soft and moisturized, yet, just around two hours after my skin is very dry again. The moisturizing effect is too short-lived for me. My skin is very dry and I need something that not only effectively moisturizes, but keeps my skin from getting flakey and uncomfortably dry for several hours. Perhaps on normal skin the level of moisture that Corn Huskers Lotion provides would be enough, but not on mine.
Corn Huskers Lotion – Likes:
- The mild scent.
- The simple packaging. It’s different. I like it.
- It’s not expensive. My mom said it cost around PhP 200. On the CVS website it’s about $3.
- It did not make my skin red or itchy.
- After the first twenty seconds, it begins to feel light and non-greasy on the skin.
- It did make my skin feel soft and plump after use.
- It’s locally available. Was bought at a South Supermarket.
Corn Huskers Lotion – Dislikes:
- It can feel slick when initially applied.
- The moisturizing effect only lasts a couple of hours on my skin.
I think if you’d like to try a lotion that’s affordable and has a gel-like instead of in cream or oil form, and you have skin that’s not very dry, you could try this product. However for those like me who have very dry skin, this probably won’t be enough for you either.
