China Glaze The Hunger Games Nail Polish – Riveting
I’ve worn this on my nails for almost one week straight now, which is already a pretty long time for me these days. I’m not a big fan of orange nail polish, but regardless, this was one of the shades I chose in the China Glaze The Hunger Games Collection (one of the other CG Hunger Games polishes I got was Luxe and Lush, review here). It just seemed so vibrant in the photos I’d seen of it, and in actual, even more so.
Color description from China Glaze:
Riveting – Bright orange shimmer
Love those shimmmers!
In natural light
This is a loud color, for sure. To my eyes, Riveting is a deep coral orange with gold shimmer that dries to a glossy finish. I’ve said that I’m not a fan of orange polish, so I didn’t think I’d like this…but I love it. It’s such a beautiful and striking color. I wore this to the beach and while I was in the water I kept getting transfixed on my nails, I just could not help staring at them.
Barely two hours on Potipot Island and we were already shades darker, but I didn’t care at all. :) The sun was scorching hot! I think that’s why my daughter and I were both not really smiling. Riveting on my nails.
When we got back to the city, I reapplied it, then mattified it using the Essie Matte About You Top Coat, which subdued the overall look of the polish by a bit, because the gloss was gone and the shimmers weren’t as obvious, but the color of it was just as stunning. In a way, it became slightly less loud and looked more urban chic. Sadly though, I still have not seen The Hunger Games movie. Oh well, guess I’ll simply have to catch it on dvd.
Riveting mattified. Outdoors in direct sunlight.
I do wish the formula of Riveting was less thick so I could’ve done thinner, more even layers instead of kinda thick, clumpy ones. As a whole though I found the formula of Riveting not totally bad. I was still able to work pretty well with it, considering each time I’d applied it I was in such a hurry and wasn’t able to do any cleanup on the edges of my nails because I didn’t have any acetone with me.
Riveting is opaque in two coats, it doesn’t have a long drying time, and the brush is pretty decent. I preordered my bottle from Digital Traincase for PhP 350.
China Glaze The Hunger Games Nail Polish – Riveting – What I like:
- The gorgeous, stunning shade.
- I love how well the gold shimmer complements the warm coral orange base.
- Doesn’t take too long to dry.
- Decent brush.
- It’s big 3-free.
China Glaze The Hunger Games Nail Polish – Riveting – What I don’t like:
- The thickish formula. It was just a little bit clumpy.
- Not easily available locally.
Overall:
If you want to try a bold, shimmery, beautiful orange hue this summer, Riveting is a must-try. It’s perfect for trips to the beach, in my opinion. I’m so glad I ordered this shade and I think the reviews I read that proclaimed this polish the star of The Hunger Games Collection were right!

I love your floppy hat, Ida! And your daughter is so cute!!! :))
And yes, I can tell the sun was scorching hot by the expression on your faces :D That’s one of the things I don’t like about going to the beach :(
The orange in this polish is so loud! I like it :D The matte top coat makes it look different in a nice way.
I noticed that in the last picture, the third finger has a bit at its base where the matte top coat didn’t quite reach. That gives me the sudden urge to paint my nails some glittery color and paint stripes of a matte top coat over it and wiggle my fingers in people’s faces :D
Thanks, Samantha! :))
We all came back pretty tan, but not sunburned, thank goodness.
Yeah, that’s a nice idea, aside from stripes you could also do like a half moon on each nail using the matte top coat. :) Really never thought I’d like loud orange polishes but I love this one.
I love the color especially when you applied the matte top coat on top. so pretty!
That pic of you and your daughter is adorable! makes me want to go to the beach too!
I love it both with and without the top coat. :)
Thank you Angel! The heat makes me want to go back to the beach, or the pool at least!
Stunning shade Ida….and ur daughter is sooooooooooooo adorable!!! :) :)
Thank you, Tara! :)
