Caronia Tropical Doll – Tangerine, Blueberry, Kiwi Nail Polish Review
The Tropical Doll Collection is Caronia’s summer 2012 collection and is composed of 3 nail polishes—Tangerine, Blueberry, and Kiwi. I first found out about Tropical Doll in April but was only able to find the polishes in stores in late June. Exactly a week ago I started keeping my nails polish-free and clipped down really short because they were badly chipped.

But yesterday I wanted to play and used Caronia Tropical Doll for my first ever sponge manicure!

Left to right- Tangerine, Blueberry, Kiwi
Tangerine is a bright, orangey red. Blueberry, to my eyes, is lighter and bluer than the color of blueberries. It’s more of a cyan blue. And Kiwi is a pastel-like lime green. All three are vibrant shades that would be wonderful for summer. All of them are also cremes and have a rather dull finish, so I recommend using a glossy top coat since that brings out more of their vibrancy.

In the same order as above
For this sponge mani I looked for a cosmetic sponge but found that I didn’t have a spare one so I took a new dishwashing sponge in the kitchen and cut out a small portion from it and used that. From photos I’ve seen of sponge manicures using cosmetic sponges, I discovered that using cosmetic ones produces a smoother gradient effect, while using a household sponge gives a much grainier appearance—which I found quite cool.
I first applied Tangerine all over my nails, then once that was dry, I took the sponge and used it to put on Blueberry on about 2/3 of each nail. I waited ’til that was semi-dry, then sponged on Kiwi on the tip area. Topped it off with Seche Vite. Man, I love the Seche Vite Top Coat. I swear it can make almost any manicure look better.

It looks so much brighter in person. Been cloudy and rainy here the past few days…
The formula on these was alright…I found them to be a little runny and streaky, but the polish did level itself once dry so that helped create a smoother appearance. Drying time was not long at all though I’m not fond of the brushes on these, which for me are too thin and contribute to the streakiness, but I could still work with it.
Caronia Tropical Doll – Tangerine, Blueberry, Kiwi Nail Polish – Pros:
- Vibrant, summery, pretty colors.
- Pigmented. Took two coats each to look opaque.
- They don’t take super long to dry.
- Have an okay formula.
- Don’t cost much. They’re only PhP 33.25 each.
- Easily available.
Caronia Tropical Doll – Tangerine, Blueberry, Kiwi Nail Polish – Cons:
- I find the brush too thin.
- They’re not big 3 (Toulene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Pthalate) free, if you’re particular about that.
Overall:
A small, but nice collection worth checking out if you love bright, affordable nail polishes. My fave out of the three shades is Kiwi, I love how fresh and cheerful this green is, and the yellow tones in it suit my warm skin tone, so I was glad that I chose to put that shade on the tips of this mani since it seems to be the most visible on the nails.
