Careline Cosmetics is a local makeup brand in the Philippines which is owned by Ever Bilena Cosmetics, Inc. While Ever Bilena caters to more mature women, Careline is targeted towards tweens, teens and young women, hence it’s cute and fun packaging and fuss-free makeup selection. I owned a few Careline products in the past, and my current collection includes a lipstick in the shade Cotton Candy.
I purchased Cotton Candy at the time when hot pink lips were all the rage. I wanted to see if I could pull off bold pink lips. I was looking for something that would fit my student budget but has good quality and I read from a popular forum that the Careline Lipstick in Cotton Candy is a good hot pink lipstick. I headed to the nearest Watsons outlet, got myself a tube, and immediately put it on a road test.
Net weight: 3 grams.
The lipstick is placed inside a white tube which in turn is housed in a hard glass-like plastic container.
Careline Cotton Candy is a fuchsia pink that looks a bit metallic. It does a good job of brightening up the face. I am fair-skinned and this is a nice complement to my skin tone. This can make one look instantly younger and fresh-faced. It is eye-catching and people tend to look at the bold color on my lips whenever I’m wearing it. Cotton Candy is said to be a cheap and inferior NARS Schiap dupe. I can’t attest to that though because I don’t own NARS lippies. It leaves a reddish stain when the lipstick wears off or is wiped off.
This lipstick is easy to apply and requires only one coat to cover lip pigmentation. It’s shiny on its own and smooth without lip balm. I am not a fan of the metallic finish though. I also don’t like the scent even if it’s fragrant. I think I can taste the fragrance when I smack my lips together repeatedly. I’ve used this for one week straight without applying lip balm and I found my lips drying and chapping. Even if it seems moisturizing and smooth on the lips, I still have to wear lip balm to protect my lips.
What I Like About Careline Lipstick in Cotton Candy:
• Glides very easily on the lips
• Opaque, very pigmented, one swipe is enough
• Shiny on its own, doesn’t need lipgloss anymore
• Does not feel heavy on the lips
• Very affordable!
• Availability. Easy to spot in any Careline booth of SM Department Stores and Watsons outlets
What I Don’t Like About Careline Lipstick in Cotton Candy:
• Average staying power, needs reapplication
• The scent is too fragrant for me. I could TASTE the fragrance, and unless it’s a fruity/yummy/sweet taste, that is never good in my book.
• I find it drying on my lips after extended use. I have to use lip balm in order to wear this.
• I’m not a fan of the metallic frosty shine, but then that’s my personal preference
• The lid is a bit hard to take off
Would I buy this again?
No. I don’t remember using it in the last three months to tell the truth. I might look for a hot pink lipstick that lasts long and gives the finish and lasting power that I want. Actually, I have one in mind already. For those who want a bold pink lipstick that is pocket-friendly, and like slightly frosty metallic finishes then this might be the one for you. As for the other lip colors, I might consider buying if I find them interesting upon swatching.
